DeMontfort Medical Centre
Working with an expanding practice of GPs serving Evesham town centre, Highbury Design were tasked as project managers and architects to double the size of the existing health care centre in Burford Road, Evesham, to meet increased patient numbers.

The original building with a cat slide roof had been flooded previously, although only 20 years old, being sited on the banks of the River Avon, and the design constraints required the extension to be at a floor level so as to be raised above the 100 year flood level with platform lift for the disabled installed between the two halves of the building. 

Under the ground floor, the void below the building was designed to be able to fill up with water so as not to disperse water elsewhere and create further flooding in a safe manner, with flood gates in the event of the river bursting its banks. The design of the building effectively taking the existing aesthetics and in conjunction with the local county council, incorporated the public car park adjacent into the design of the building with a land swap.

Wolston Surgery
The main medical practice in Wolston, Coventry dated back to the 1970s and required modernisation to meet changing healthcare needs, modern cross infection requirements and with enlarged facilities to meet an increasing patient list with residential development in the area. 

The practice were tasked with creating three modern consulting rooms meet current HTM area standards with new IPS sanitaryware to reduce the risk of legionella, whilst the reception area was extended with re-planning of the whole surgery and a new entrance reception and enlarged on site pharmacy. 

The scheme had a very tight budget and was tendered to suitable contractors with close management required to achieve completion on time and within budget, effectively mixing the best elements of the old building where funding would not allow for complete refurbishment. Work took place working around a ‘live’ environment and it was key that the design maintained the character and hands on approach of the doctors and staff in this facility at the centre of the community.
